Concert Essentials
Being chronically ill and loving music events sometimes might not be the easiest but you bet I'm going to be shaking my butt to "Pink Pony Club" the next time Chappell Roan is in town. Below are a few tips and products I recommend to make your next event as smooth as possible.
You'll need the below items to ensure you are well-prepared for any eventualities during your activities.
Below is a quick list you can copy and print. Continue reading for tips on what to include in your kits.
👝Carabiner pouches:
🪪 Medical ID or small card listing your conditions, allergies, and emergency contact.

🩼Medical Equipment
🍬 Energy + Comfort
🎒Clear Backpack
👟 Pre-Show Prep
Carabiner Pouches: Choosing the right pouches can make a lot of difference in how quick you can access necessary items.
Find 2 small pouches you can hang outside of your bag. In these pouches, place anything you need immediate access to (gum, masks, earplugs, etc.). You'll have more in the larger kits, but this setup is for easy access and that way you don't need to be going in and out of the bag frequently.
Zippers and I don't mix well due to my finger mobility issues and easy cutting on my hands due to EDS, so the less I have to go inside the backpack, the better. Add additional carabiners on the outside of your bag to hang your preferred items—this will save time and avoid frustration!
Quick List: Here’s a short list of essential items that can make your experience smoother:
Hand sanitizer: Keep those hands clean!
Ear plugs: Protect your hearing!
Towelette: Great for quick clean-ups!
Ginger candy/gum: Helps with nausea and is a sweet treat!
Mints: Freshen up anytime!
LMNT: Electrolyte drink mix for hydration!
Small Lip Balm: Protect your lips against dryness.
Tiny Sunscreen: A must-have for sun protection!
Mask: Be prepared for health protocols.
Eye Drops: Keep your eyes hydrated and fresh.
Medical ID Card: Ensuring your health data is accessible is paramount.
Luckily, we all have phones on us, so having a medical ID is easier than ever. However, I remember a time when kids used to carry around little IDs that could be made at places like Sears or Toys R Us, so I wanted to create something cute. I designed the template below that you can search for by name on Canva. It’s free to use with your Canva account, and you can print it at your local library if you don’t have access to a printer! Some libraries even offer laminating services. Don't hesitate to contact your local library for additional help with their printing services!
Med Kit: You never know when you might need one, so having a med kit on standby is a smart move.
Med kits can come in all sizes and shapes. Larger ones might need extra time in security, so I prefer to keep those as backups in my car and carry the smaller ones along with me.
Quick List: Here’s a brief list of what I recommend putting in your smaller med kit:
Small First Aid Kit: Always useful to have on hand for cuts and scrapes.
Topical Pain Relief: Relief for sore muscles can go a long way.
Tissues: Handy for a variety of situations!
Contact Lens Solution: Essential if you wear contact lenses.
Lozenges: Soothing for sore throats.
LMNT: For staying hydrated while out and about.
Q Tips: Useful for cleaning and applying ointments.
Ice Pack: Great to have for injuries!
Mask: Again, a must for health and safety.
Smelling Stick: Can be refreshing and help in case of nausea.
Energy/Comfort Kit: This is just as vital for various situations.
Easy and Portable Snacks: Having snacks on hand can keep your energy up.
Disposable Hand Warmer: Perfect for chilly days!
Compression socks/band: These can help with circulation, especially on longer outings.
Clear Backpack: It can be challenging to navigate specific venues with bags, so having a clear backpack makes it easier for security checks.
Sunglasses: If you wear glasses like me, the link below has some that go over your glasses to offer additional sun protection.
Hat: A stylish accessory and sun protection.
Cooling Towel: A fantastic relief from heat!
Small Fan: Perfect for staying cool.
Plastic Water Bottle: Always stay hydrated!
Fidget Item: Great for keeping your hands busy during waits.
Large Med Kit (if needed): Always be prepared, especially on longer excursions.
Attach Carabiner Pouches: They’re back to help keep you organized!
Energy/Comfort Kit: Again, don’t forget this essential kit!
